Testimonials

Our experience with AMC was absolutely amazing

We did a full house renovation, on time and within budget. Everyone, from Andrew to the person responsible for the smallest detail, was a pleasure to work with. No concern of ours was considered trivial and no surprises were unworkable. They know their stuff and are open to suggestions. We cannot emphasize enough what fine professionals they are.

Our realtor recommended Andrew to help us assess whether or not the SF fixer-uppers we were looking to buy were doable or a bottomless money pit. Andrew visited open houses with us, listened to what we wanted to do (and not do), and offered his expert construction and cost analysis. In the hyper-competitive "no-contingency" bidding market, having Andrew on our side was invaluable. We love our current place now and would not have taken the leap without Andrew's guidance.

Cow Hollow homeowner:

I recommend without hesitation Andrew Gilchrist, and his firm, Andrew Mark Construction, to anyone considering a medium, large, or very large home renovation in and around San Francisco.

I’ve come to understand that there are two types of renovations: Renovate-to-Flip and Renovate-to-Live-in. Andrew is not interested in Renovate-to-Flip jobs. He cares too much about quality and is too good at what he does to waste it on those who are not going to enjoy the benefits of his quality workmanship.

Andrew knows what he’s doing and he’s good at it. He’s been doing it since he was old enough to lift a hammer. He has worked hard to learn the trade and persevered to master it.

Andrew listens to understand what drives clients’ needs and constraints, comes up with ideas and alternatives, and then educates them to make good, responsible, informed decisions. In our good-sized project, he pointed out several items that we would not have thought to address (e.g., smooth out the long first floor wall, remove an old fireplace and chimney to open up the living room and deck area above, hollow out hidden dead spaces to provide additional storage, etc.) and that we are extremely glad we did!

In each case he laid out the rationale for doing something more than we had planned, gave us multiple options, and helped us think through which to follow. He shared his opinions and recommendations but didn’t insist we do what he thought was best. We didn’t always do what he seemed to want but we always appreciated his proactive thinking and thoughtful analysis.

Andrew is an eager learner. He stays abreast of regulations and techniques, studies what others do, and gets advice and training from experts in the construction industry to learn how to run a better back office. He sets himself apart in other ways too. For example, he treats subcontractors well and with respect; he pays fast so subs show-up on time and do their best work to be called upon again.

In summary, Andrew does premium work on large jobs at a reasonable priceon target, on time, and on budget!
